Oh my, what have I gotten myself into? was the first that popped into my mind when I sat down to write this blog post.
When I started to make jewelry about five years ago I did not have this blog or a "name". I had an ordinary blog where I mostly wrote about our home and family which is called "Shymes hem" (translated to English: "Shyme's home"). Then when I started making some sales and started thinking about starting a separate jewelry blog I started thinking about a "business"-name, something to call my jewelry making. Even though I had my other blog called "Shymes hem" it was not that obvious to me that "Shyme" would be a part of my jewelry blogging or making.
The name "Shyme" originally comes from when I started participating in forums and communities in the beginning of my internet use. It is really a combination of the two words "shy" and "me" that I put together simply because I was a very shy person at that time. That alias stuck with me through the years and was what I was calling myself in a large Swedish community where I was introduced to the shabby chic/vintage/Danish/French interior design and definitely the color white and also was inspired to start blogging.
So back to my jewelry blog then. After some thinking I decided to call my jewelry blog "Shymes smycken" which in English should become "Shyme's jewelry". My blog was called that for quite a while, until I discovered the international blog world last year when I was on maternity leave with my youngest daughter. Then I started to write in both Swedish and English for a while before starting to write in just English. I then decided to make my blog name more international and also usable in marketing my jewelry in both Sweden and later on in the Etsy shop I started. So my blog changed name to "Shyme Design" which is also what i today call my jewelry in general. I would not call it a business name since it is still just a hobby.

ReplyDeleteI like the final name the best, it suits a "business person" and with what I see on your Etsy shop, you are so much more than a "hobbiest"
ReplyDelete((Jenny))...Shy you! A hobby?! with your beautiful pieces I have no doubt your lil "hobby" will evolve into something BIG! Your pieces are so soft looking, even the ones that aren't pink! I am so glad Lori Anderson partnered us up - I now have a beading partner in Sweden (which is NOT Belgium)and you have a friend in Virginia Beach! Thanks for joining me in my birthday blog. xxoOh! ~ Shelley
